How did the Nordic scientists view the Arab world during their expeditions? What was the Arab perception of Scandinavia in the media then and now? How was the Arab presence in the Nordic countries?

We hope to be able to give some answers on these questions in a two-day seminar, hosted by the Finnish Institute in the Middle East and co-sponsored by the History Department at American University in Cairo.

The seminar will take place at the American University in Cairo in Tahrir from 9th until 10th of November and is open to the public. It will be inaugurated by five Ambassadors from the Nordic countries and the Netherlands. Welcome.

Exhibition of Peacekeeping Finland along with the seminar

Finland has a long tradition in peacekeeping. Over 50 000 Finns, men and women, have taken part in peacekeeping operations around the World during the last 50 years. During recent years Finland also has raised its profile in civilian crisis management. A growing number of Finnish peacekeepers are also professionals in civilian crisis management.

Encouraged and inspired by Finlands former president and Nobel laureate Martti Ahtisaari, Finns have also taken a bigger role also in mediation.

Peacekeeping FinlandExhibition is jointly organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The traveling exhibition displays Finnish peacekeeping and civilian crisis management through pictures and videos from the early stages in the Suez until the present day. The Peacekeeping Finland Exhibition will be in Cairo on 9-10 November. The exhibition is open to the public. You are warmly welcome to visit the exhibition.
