Egypt has been Finland's long-term development cooperation partner from 1977 to 2007. During that period Finland supported the development of infrastructure, water and sanitation, health care, rural development and during the past few years concentrated especially on environment. Egypt is a middle income country and its economic development has opened the opportunity to move from development cooperation towards more diverse partnership and collaboration.
